Designed in 1945, the Chinese Chair is the quintessential modern outcome of designer Hans Wegner’s studies of traditional chairs from the Ming Dynasty. Its slim yet functional geometry constitutes the foundations for many later designs, and involves the modern crafting technique of compressing and bending steamed solid wood in three dimensions. The result is a high rounded back that offers support and comfort, with full-length armrests that sit low enough to fit beneath a tabletop.
